Those who believe “small” semi-custom megayachts don’t leave much room for distinctive characteristics should take a good look at Jangada. Within her 82-foot (25-meter) LOA are a few pleasant surprises, all made possible because her builder, Van der Valk Continental Yachts, allows client input into general arrangements, hull configurations, and propulsion systems.
Jangada is the second launch in the Continental Three series from the Dutch builder. The all-aluminum megayacht features a semi-planing hull form, one of a few designs that Continental Three buyers can select. The owner of Jangada also selected Volvo Penta’s IPS system, rather than conventional powerplants.
Being an experienced yacht buyer, Jangada’s owner had a specific vision for the general arrangement, too, which will surely strike you as being unusual. It’s due to the crew’s quarters being forward on the main deck. Two crew cabins share a head and accompany the crew mess here. Not unusual, though, is the dedicated stairway leading down to the owner’s and guests’ staterooms for quick service. The master extends full beam down here, complemented by a VIP stateroom and two twins.
The owner selected Nick Top, an industrial designer, to execute the interior. He collaborated with Guido de Groot Design, who developed the Continental Three Series with Van der Valk Continental Yachts. The photo gallery below reveals a plethora of whitewashed oak, lending a bright, airy feeling to Jangada. That open feeling is preserved by a floating stairway to the raised pilothouse and flying bridge. The latter includes an additional helm plus a sunbed, dining area, and toy stowage (a PWC and a 15-foot, or 4.5-meter, tender).
