We’re getting our first looks at what Lion Spirit, in build at Sunrise Yachts, will resemble when delivered next year. She’s notable for being a diesel-electric yacht intended to cruise the world with her owners and their family.
The 182-foot (55.6-meter) megayacht should be well capable of circumnavigations, given an expected 5,000-nautical-mile range at a few knots slower than her top end of 17 knots. The owners decided to incorporate a diesel-electric system, further fitted with pod drives, upon learning of its advantages. The overall azimuthing pods and diesel-electric propulsion package is a first for Sunrise Yachts and reportedly a first for this size range.
Espen Øino International has given Lion Spirit an assertive profile, yet one that still has a decidedly yacht-y side. In the gallery below, note the pairs of round ports below decks and the somewhat softened edges to the vertical bow.
Özgün Yacht & Naval Architecture, responsible for naval architecture, has given Lion Spirit a voluminous 850-gross-ton displacement and a 34’4” (10.5-meter) beam. The steel hull draws 9’8” (3 meters), so some skinny waters should require the tenders to be deployed to go exploring.
That shouldn’t be a concern to the owners or their family, which includes children. With a love for adventure, they have a variety of places onboard Lion Spirit from which to take in approaching shores. Check out the glass-topped and glass-walled observation lounge on the upper deck. Aft on that same deck is the master suite, with floor-to-ceiling glass for great views as well. The owners are working with Reymond Langton Design to ensure the interior design suits their style of comfortable, casual living.
