The total number of refit and repair facilities that the Palumbo Superyachts has at its disposal is now five. The Palumbo Group, its parent company, has acquired a new location in Tenerife, Spain.
Located in the Canary Islands, the new Palumbo Superyachts Tenerife yard occupies a former naval yard. Lucia de Suñer Machado, the managing director of the facility, calls the islands “a crossroad in between Europe, America, Africa, and Asia, and have recently become a strategic naval supply and repair station in the central Atlantic Ocean.” Due to that, and the scarcity of megayachts in the region, Palumbo Superyachts Tenerife will primarily focus on commercial ships and cruise ships. However, private yachts will still be in the mix.
Overall, the facility has four cranes for vessels up to 300 gross tons. Two different areas—the yard is inside the Port of Santa Cruz—have docks measuring approximately 1,608 feet (490 meters) and 227 feet (70 meters). Depth at the former dock is 39 feet (12 meters), while it’s 26 feet (8 meters) at the latter. Warehousing is also on site. In addition, Palumbo Superyachts Tenerife reportedly has an anchoring zone that’s protected from prevailing winds and currents.
Further noteworthy, while the Canary Islands are politically within the European Union (EU), they are within an authorized low-tax zone. The EU’s VAT does not apply.
Palumbo Superyachts Tenerife complements the Group’s four other yards in Naples and Messina, both in Italy, plus Malta (pictured at top) and Marseilles, France. The Malta and Marseilles facilities are focused on megayachts. The others, like Palumbo Superyachts Tenerife, attend to commercial and private vessels alike.
