A raised pilothouse is one of the most classic, and practical, design features a yacht can have. Raised-pilothouse motoryachts tend to be instantly recognizable, too—except in the case of the newest Mangusta project. In fact, the way the Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht incorporates it “changes everything,” notes Stefano Arlunno, president of Mangusta Americas.
Arlunno worked closely with designer Alberto Mancini to develop the new model. They didn’t want to simply add another size to the Mangusta GranSport range. Rather, Arlunno explains, “we wanted to free up the upper deck by envisaging new configurations that would radically redefine the onboard experience and create spaces to live, and not just to walk through.”

Firstly, the raised pilothouse isn’t where yacht owners and captains are accustomed to seeing it. Instead, it emerges one level up, from the upper deck. It’s not readily detectible in the profile, either, because Mancini blends it into the overall styling. The change of location serves two purposes. It allows the owners of the 164-footer (49.9-meter) to wake up to even more prime views (above), out over the infinity pool, without compromising the captain’s need for clear sightlines. Design-wise, it also serves an important purpose. The Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht remains sleek and sporty, like her sisterships.
Mancini did modify the styling a bit, though. For instance, the fashion plates—the outboard structures visually connecting the main and upper decks—are frameless. Additionally, tinted glass insets quite literally open up better views from the saloon. They further complement the enlarged and extensive glass panels throughout the three and a half decks.

While buyers have always had the ability to arrange rooms like lounges and staterooms as they wish, the Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht provides more choices. In fact, some of the choices are rare for a shipyard and design team to suggest in this size range. For example, owners with big families may prefer a sixth stateroom to replace the skylounge. Another idea, and one that might find strong favor, is making the entire upper deck a private owners’ deck. In this case, the Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht can situate the master bedroom aft and an office or family lounge forward, overlooking the infinity pool. Regardless, an enlarged, full-beam area forward on the main deck can be a second master suite or a VIP. (The extra space results from moving the galley to the lower deck.) It additionally can benefit from a deploying balcony.
With an ample sundeck and accommodations for 12, this new model comes on the heels of the announcement of another Mangusta GranSport model, the Mangusta GranSport 38 yacht. One of the features of the Mangusta GranSport 50 yacht comes straight from the 38, namely the sunlounges integrated into the transom.
