Las Vegas is among the last places you’d think of when it comes to an exciting ocean getaway, but the night of November 15, it was the perfect place to be. That’s when one lucky bidder won a week’s cruise on Arctic P (seen above) in Tahiti.
The trip aboard the 288-footer, a former icebreaker that was extensively refitted several years ago to be a luxurious megayacht, was one of several items auctioned off at an event to benefit the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI). Called Rock for the Cure, it’s an annual fundraiser for NVCI, which treats cancer patients within its home state and throughout the southwestern USA. That’s Howie Mandel in the second photo, one of many celebrities who entertained the 1,200 attendees and got them to loosen up their wallets.
And loosen they did: The person who’ll be enjoying Tahiti’s crystal-clear waters from the decks of Arctic P sealed the deal with a generous half-million-dollar bid.
The team from Burgess, which manages the yacht for media baron James Packer of Australia, will help the lucky winner plan this vacation of a lifetime. If friends and family come along, hopefully no fights will break out over who’ll get to stay in the owner’s suite, as there are beautiful accommodations for 12 people. They’ll also get to enjoy a private cinema, a games room, an observation lounge, and a pool as well as a Jacuzzi. But a word to the wise: No pestering the crew as to what Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes did aboard on their honeymoon. They’ll likely keep details to themselves.
