The luxury yachting world is meeting the luxury automotive field. That is, Benetti has tapped Henrik Fisker, the famed designer of the Fisker Karma and other high-end cars, to create a new superyacht series.
Benetti is keeping most details about the new series confidential until the Yachts Miami Beach show (formerly the Yacht & Brokerage Show) in February. Even Fisker himself is keeping the lid on the full design. The sketch below is all that either will show; it was supplied by Fisker’s team to automotive websites first, so you may have seen it there. For now, Benetti says the megayachts will measure 164 feet (50 meters). Engineering is being done in house, employing a new hull design. The series will feature solar panels and optional hybrid power. Benetti plans to use carbon fiber in the structure, too.
Fisker’s contributions include styling and interior design. He plans to make more use of space, though again, no specifics are available on how. Regardless, whatever he does styling-wise, it likely will stand out. Fisker, as you may know, created the flashy hybrid Fisker Karma car (at top). Prior to that, he headed the design departments for Aston Martin and BMW. He currently runs California-based HF Design & Technology, involved in automotive, tech, and consumer products.
Fisker is employing reclaimed wood for the new Benettis, though neither he nor the yard specifies where. (Could be for interior paneling or deck materials.) The series will have the amenities customers have come to expect, of course: beach clubs, bars, sunning space, and hot tubs/pools. Six staterooms and accommodations for 11 crewmembers will further be aboard.
We’ll have more on the Benetti-Fisker matchup when full information becomes available.
