The new AB 100 series from AB Yachts surely turns heads, for multiple reasons. One is the sleek styling shared with smaller and larger AB Yachts projects. Another is spirited performance. The builder’s first AB 100, Spectre, is definitely spirited. She reportedly achieves 53 knots.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to zip along at that speed, perhaps you can put her to the test. Spectre makes her boat-show debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. That show is renowned for letting exhibitors conduct sea trials. Even if you don’t get to push her to 50-plus knots, you can get a feel for her propulsion package. Twin 1,900-hp MTUs pair with MJP waterjets. (Note that all AB Yachts models incorporate waterjets.)
You can also get a feel for the alfresco enjoyment that Spectre enhances. Good-size sunning areas lie fore, aft, and on the flying bridge, for example. Unusual for her size, Spectre also has a transom garage that becomes a beach club (below).
Another attractive ideal behind the AB 100: Buyers can tailor the 22’3”-beam (6.8-meter-beam) interior to their liking. Spectre has an abundance of light tones, from pale-stained wood soles to white wall and overhead panels. The natural light spilling in from all sides enhances the airy feel as well. This includes the forward helm, which remains open to the dining area and saloon aft. The owners chose mostly muted fabrics, too, though red serves as a splash of color in staterooms and common areas.
The fact that the helm is open to the living areas means you can enjoy a comfortable relationship with your crew. There’s an extra helm station on the flying bridge, by the sunpad, furthering the easygoing relationship. Two crew cabins, sharing a head, are standard for the AB 100. Also tucked into the crew area, beneath the bow: the galley.
