Seemingly, for every fuel-conscious superyacht owner, there is another owner who thrills to fast speeds, with no mind to fuel burn. Perhaps that’s why Tankoa Yachts is introducing its first open-style project. The shipyard plans the Tankoa 58M Open to hit a 28- to 30-knot top speed at half load.
The speed will come from triple MTU diesel engines, along with a central booster, or turbine engine. KaMeWa waterjets will flank that central booster, too. The combination of main motors and a turbine, along with waterjets, is common for yachts engineered for a quick pace. In addition, the combination and all-aluminum construction will keep the draft of the Tankoa 58M Open to just shy of six feet.
Francesco Paszkowski Design is responsible for the superyacht’s styling. In keeping with Open tradition, plenty of alfresco space awaits aboard the Tankoa 58M Open. They include ample areas for sunbathing, especially aft on the main and upper decks. Yet another sunpad sits on the foredeck. It’s adjacent to what appears to be unused space, at least at first glance. But, surprise: A concealed seating/dining area is actually here. The settees and table come into view when, at the press of a button, a cover rises. It keeps the section nicely shaded, as seen in the illustration at top.
The shipyard has not publicized a possible interior arrangement for the 31-foot-beam boat. Given yachts of this LOA, though, it’s likely that she can accommodate an owner’s party of 12 and about 10 crew. It’s also likely that Tankoa wants buyers to bring their own ideas.
In the meantime, Tankoa Yachts is readying its second motoryacht for delivery, this spring. Project C103 measures 164 feet and draws largely from the Tankoa S501 model. That means she will pursue long-range cruising. The shipyard expects a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. She’s also remaining beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold, simplifying regulatory and operational needs.
