An Italian yachtsman should be enjoying the maiden voyage aboard his newly delivered yacht as you read this. Her name is Gipsy, hull number one in the Otam Custom Range series.
Gipsy is an Otam SD35, with “SD” meaning “semi-displacement” and “35” meaning the LOA in meters (115 feet). The owner tailored both the exterior and the interior design to his tastes, working with Design Studio Spadolini. The somewhat shippy styling complements the hearty volume of 295 gross tons. It also complements the intended cruising on both sides of the Atlantic. Gipsy is made for a top speed of about 20 knots and best range of 2,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. She’s also made for enjoying relatively shallow waters, with a draft of 7’2” (2.2 meters). Otam and naval architect Umberto Tagliavini incorporated partial tunnels in the aluminum hull bottom to aid in this regard.
As for the interior, the owner of Gipsy requested an arrangement you may not expect. The master suite is on the upper deck. The full deck is his to use, too. Another unusual idea is having the saloon serve more like a movie theater. The room encompasses nearly 430 square feet (40 square meters). Eight guests can spread out here and enjoy formal meals in the full-beam (25’6”, or 7.8-meter) dining are forward. Gipsy’s owner makes things convenient for the crew to serve meals, since the galley and a good-size pantry are on the main deck, too. The pantry alone occupies 269 square feet (25 square meters).
Speaking of the crew, six crewmembers get four cabins below decks. Guests go below decks aboard Gipsy, too, in a mix of twins and doubles.
Following the summer season, Gipsy will make her boat-show debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
