“Large series production drives you towards certain production processes, but that’s not us,” says Matteo Belardinelli, Otam’s commercial director. That’s why the builder allows the level of customization that big superyachts do. The latest project reflecting this philosophy is the Otam 90 GTS, specially resulting from a customer request.
In some respects, the customer is similar to many Otam clients, in that he desires a chase boat for his larger yacht. He also knew he could make distinct requests to tailor something to his tastes and needs. In fact, the client wanted a fast, capacious craft for a crowd, complementing his mini armada of other dayboats.
The 91-foot (27.75-meter) Otam 90 GTS should top out upwards of an impressive 40 knots. She’ll come equipped with twin MTUs matched with Arneson surface drives, too. Lightweight construction contributes to the speed as well. Otam is using Aramat and fiberglass. (Aramat is a combination of Kevlar and fiberglass.) It’s no wonder, then, that the shipyard considers her the largest yacht to date in its Fast and Iconic line.
The shipyard isn’t revealing the passenger capacity, or many details on what creature comforts are aboard the client’s yacht. For instance, it’s just stating that the master suite is amidships. Beam is 19’7” (6 meters), too. Note as well that the foredeck is for leisurely conversations, cocktails, and/or sunning. For future potential customers, though, the master can have either a single or double-size window. Additionally, an opening hardtop or soft top is possible, as are full- or half-height side windows. A side door is further possible and especially handy for crew. Overall, guest staterooms, a saloon, and a dining area all can be featured. The Otam 85 GTS, for example, includes these, plus a galley.
“We’ve integrated that big-boat mentality into a yacht of under 24 meters at the loadline with all the associated advantages in terms of manning and maintenance,” Belardinelli explains.
