Custom-yacht and sportfishing devotees alike are eagerly following the build of the 90-foot Project Ireland. She’ll be the biggest project to date from North Carolina-based Jarrett Bay Boatworks, renowned for its custom battlewagons. Furthermore, Project Ireland will be the world’s largest sportfisherman incorporating carbon fiber. Some recent significant steps put her closer to completion, in less than a year. That also means she’s closer to the public getting its first good look at her.
Jarrett Bay has been sharing progress photos on its website and on its Facebook page. The picture above, from October, shows the saloon floor going into place. At the same time, the yard fitted the galley floor, plus the gensets, engines, and Seakeeper stabilizer. Below, a scene from just two weeks ago, Jarrett Bay prepped Project Ireland’s carbon fiber cabin sections. That followed prepping of the equally large brow and topside, also comprised of carbon fiber.
Project Ireland’s superstructure remains in Jarrett Bay’s shed as of this writing. However, the shipyard expects to join it to the hull within the next few weeks. That will be quite the moment for the owner, plus followers of the project for the past two years.
Upon delivery, Project Ireland will point her bow toward fishing grounds all over the world. They’ll be stateside, in Central America, plus as far as Vanuatu. Nearly 5,000 gallons of fuel and powerful 2,600-hp MTUs will get the yacht, with a 310-square-foot cockpit, there. The weight savings thanks to the carbon fiber will play a role, too. All bulkheads and stringers aboard are 100 percent carbon fiber, as are parts of the above-mentioned cabin, decks, and bridge. Project Ireland nearly became entirely carbon fiber, in fact. But, according to Jarrett Bay’s president, Randy Ramsey, the owner went with cold-molded construction for its better sound abatement.
The guests, and crew, should appreciate the sound reduction when done fishing for the day. Project Ireland has a beam of 22’6” and six staterooms for all aboard. Jarrett Bay hasn’t revealed the interior design details. However, they’re expected to be in keeping with a custom 90-footer.
