About nine months after Sunreef Yachts publicly announced a new mega-cat was coming, hull number one has appeared. This is the 88 Double Deck, which continues the emphasis on extra-voluminous interiors.
The “double deck” in the model name refers to a mezzanine just a few steps up from the main saloon. When you’re standing inside the catamaran, it makes the yacht look and feel larger. If you follow Sunreef, you’ll probably remember that the first yacht with the concept was Ipharra, a 102 Double Deck. She launched in 2010.
While the 88 Double Deck is smaller, she features some of the same space benefits as her bigger sister. For instance, you’ll find the master suite forward on the main deck. It takes advantage of the catamaran’s expansive 36’7” (11.2-meter) beam. It also takes advantage of a wall of windows. Even though they’re not floor to ceiling, a style so many builders are offering, they still allow for enjoying an anchorage, or approaching shoreline.
Sunreef has not revealed where the owner comes from, or where he or she plans to cruise. It therefore also has not revealed any information on the decor. All it says is that the layout and configuration meet the owner’s desires, and that she started as a custom project. In addition, the 88 Double Deck accommodates an owner’s party of 12.
Regardless, each 88 Double Deck offers more than 3,229 square feet (300 square meters) of relaxation and entertainment space. While the above-mentioned mezzanine deck is included, so, too, are alfresco dining areas and sunning areas. For example, owners can request the main aft deck include a dining table. For a little more privacy, they may want it solely on the sundeck. Most buyers, though, will probably want both, in keeping with current trends.
Further, each 88 Double Deck bears a mast rising nearly 112 feet high (34 meters high). We’ll have to imagine for now how she’ll look with her sails deployed. The mainsail measures 2,314 square feet (215 square meters), while the genoa is 1,937 square feet (180 square meters). Lastly, the stay sail is 818 square feet (76 square meters).
Constructed entirely of composite, the 88 Double Deck is the sixth megayacht so far from the shipyard.
