It’s been nearly a month since a pretty unusual Feadship came into view. Sherpa is her owner’s first expedition/support vessel, as well as the first of that type for the Dutch builder. Of course, Feadship will tell you it’s a custom superyacht builder, and therefore nothing is really all that unusual. But Sherpa is arguably new territory, since she will accompany a more traditional megayacht. And, to better understand her rugged purpose, as well as her just-as-rugged design, you have to get up close.
The team at Dutch Yachting, a social media platform celebrating yachts built in The Netherlands, did that, with video camera in hand. Keep in mind while viewing the footage here that the megayacht measures 241 feet (73.6 meters) and rises so high that Feadship had to slip Sherpa out in April just to fit more of her structures onboard. This especially was true of her mast, which you can see being fitted in the first video below. Other components came onboard at the same time, a few days after the launch took place.
This second Sherpa video provides super-close views. Note at one point a pretty significant-size hatch along one side. This could conceal a tender garage, or a guest area for enjoying open-air views. We suspect it’s a garage—possibly for a car. This is because Sherpa will carry land transportation, too. Feadship hasn’t specified what type, however, only saying a variety of tenders and vehicles are going onboard.
For getting tenders and vehicles on and off, Sherpa will have telescopic cranes. They’ll each have truly telescopic reach, too. One, for instance, extends out 66 feet (20 meters). The other crane is no slouch, at “only” 39 feet (12 meters). These extensions will be helpful at anchor, of course, but also at the dock. This way, the vehicles can clear gangplank edges and other items that could pose obstructions.
The christening and delivery take place much later this year. At that point, we hope to get a glimpse of her luxury interior areas. Sherpa is not just for carrying extra toys and gear, you see. She has six staterooms for guests, all on the main deck. The master suite also sits on the main deck. In addition, yacht-like dining areas, lounges, and more will welcome visitors.
