The one-off Otam 85 GTS not only launched before her scheduled due date, but also achieved better performance pledges. This should mean more enjoyment for her owner ahead of the yacht’s premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
The Otam 85 GTS started as a concept, based on the Otam 80. The latter debuted in 2017 and attracted attention primarily for good speeds and a second full-beam master. When customers began asking for a little larger, more open version, the Otam 85 GTS was born on paper. The 85-foot (25.85-meter) megayacht had opening gullwings attached to the hardtop. The styling was more aggressive, too, taking some cues from supercars. However, the project took a dramatically different styling direction when a customer wanted to sign a contract. He liked the space allocations, but asked if the styling could be a little less aggressive while still being sporty.
The newly launched megayacht shows off a partially opening hardtop, as per the owner’s request, both in function and shape. He wanted the megayacht to be more of a day boat serving his summer home. Note, too, that the hardtop incorporates the engine-air intakes, plus of course provides shade to guests when dining or relaxing.
Inside, Otam 85 GTS still has two master suites, one forward and one amidships. But, design input from Joseph Dirand Architecture means the tones and textures are all the owner’s. (Unfortunately, no photos are yet available.) For guests’ convenience, a day head is near the saloon and dining area. For their and the crew’s convenience, the galley is steps away, too.
In terms of exceeding performance pledges, the Otam 85 GTS reported maxes out upwards of 45 knots. Twin MTUs with Arneson drives also allow crusing upwards of 38 knots. Her contract promised a top end of 45 knots and cruise of 35. Even with such high speeds, the megayacht still sees a decent range of 350 nautical miles when cruising.
Catch the Otam 85 GTS at the Cannes Yachting Festival—if you can keep up, that is.
