Sporty Pershing GTX80 Yacht Series Makes Its Debut

Spring has brought the latest evolution of the spirited performers that have earned Pershing renown. Hull number one of the Pershing GTX80 yacht series lowered into the water on April 3.

The newest—and smallest—model in the GTX range, the series turns up the fun factor for Pershing enthusiasts. For instance, buyers will find bigger alfresco areas than are typical for yachts of her dimensions. Even with an LOA of 79 feet (24 meters), the megayacht has a 247-square-foot (23-square-meter) sundeck. When Pershing announced the project, it indicated this was 60 percent larger than usual. On a related note, although the sundeck can remain open, a hardtop is available, as seen on hull number one (above). Its carbon fiber composition means it’s lightweight, plus lends aesthetic appeal.

Yet another alfresco space aboard the Pershing GTX80 yacht series that will particularly appeal is the swim platform. Depending on your activities during the day, you can use it in three different positions. Firstly, the ordinary setting, slightly lower than the rest of the aft deck, makes it a typical swimmer entry and exit point. Secondly, the platform can lift to sit level with the aft deck and, in combination with the fold-down bulwarks, create a terrace-like leisure area. In total, cruisers have 301 square feet (28 square meters) of usable space with the bulwarks open. Notably, this is the first time that a Pershing project is incorporating folding sides. Lastly, the swim platform can raise to the aft-deck level for launching a tender or PWCs.

Because so many cruisers enjoy the indoor-outdoor lifestyle, the Pershing GTX80 layout supports this. Cleverly, for example, a combination of a galley and bar sits right at the entry from the aft deck. The choice of freestanding furnishings on hull number one means nothing interferes with guests regularly moving between the inside and outside throughout the day. Neither does the furniture block the views out the big glass panels to both sides. Interestingly, hull number one also color-coordinates the black galley appliances with the lacquered metallic silver ceiling. It’s attractive yet not distracting attention away from being on the water. Come nighttime, intersecting diagonal LEDs throughout the ceiling enhance spending time inside with friends and family.

With accommodations for eight all below decks, along with a two-person crew cabin, the Pershing GTX80 yacht series pledges the performance of previous family members. In fact, sea trials should confirm a top speed of 34 knots and a cruising speed of 28 knots. Propulsion is from triple Volvo Penta IPS units, which consume less fuel than traditional-shaft diesels, too.
