Bearing an ice-classed hull and previously the largest expedition superyacht from her builder, the yacht Luna has hit the brokerage market. She’s one of the highest-profile and highest-priced yachts currently for sale.
Stretching 375 feet (114 meters) in length, and with a 5,655-gross-ton volume, the yacht was one of the 10-largest private vessels seeing delivery in 2010. Still today, she’s among the 10-largest purpose-built explorer yachts. In fact, she has an ice-classed hull, with a diesel-electric propulsion system. Furthermore, she has an extraordinary 9,500-nautical-mile range. Also notable, the yacht Luna is capable of unusually swift speeds for her size and purpose. Specifically, she tops out at 22 knots and cruises at just shy of 17 knots. Those capabilities have enabled her to travel from her birthplace in Germany to San Diego and Miami in the United States and as far as Dubai, among others.
Presently in Hamburg, Germany, Luna is listed for €270 million (about $307.6 million) through the central agency of Eastwind Yachts. She’s in the midst of a major refit. She last underwent a refit from 2015 to 2016, though one started in 2022 interrupted when Germany froze her. The freeze of assets belonging her owner, the Russian energy-sector magnate Farkhad Akhmedov, lifted in September 2023.

Although the specifics of the refit aren’t available, overall, the yacht Luna has capacious lounges and other leisure areas featuring the handiwork of interior designer Donald Starkey. Staterooms for a party of 18 are primarily on the main deck, though an entire owner’s deck lies above it. With a private spa, a saloon, and both a fireplace and massive skylight in the bedroom, it’s a secluded retreat. Equally attractive, the sleeping area is beamy, with areas to both sides for seating areas and a breakfast area. Their positioning right by the windows makes them perfect for enjoying anchorages or voyages to a favorite destination.
Conveniently, an elevator connects the owner’s deck and every interior deck onboard. This makes it easier to access the observation deck, for instance, where a wall of windows awaits. It simultaneously makes it easier to arrive in style for formal dinners in the bridge-deck dining area. Interested buyers who often conduct business while aboard should note that an office and a conference room are both on the bridge deck, too.

However, the superyacht lifestyle is all about enjoying the ocean air and coastal regions. To that end, the yacht Luna has some impressive alfresco amenities. True to her name, crescent moons complement a dining area aft on the bridge deck. Naturally, the superyacht has fold-down platforms on the lower deck, one of which is for the gym. She also has an adjacent beach club, where a spa—including a sauna, plunge pool, and steam bath—beckons. Above all, though, owners and guests may find it hard to resist the pool area on the main deck. Thirty-nine feet (12 meters) in length and 16 feet (5 meters) wide, the pool is dramatic. Adjacent sunpads and seating, plus nighttime lighting, make it a day-to-evening social area. So, too, does a big seating area forward, where the crew can set up a shade.
Speaking of the crew, Luna runs with a captain and crew head count of 51. The present crew includes a helicopter maintenance team; two certified helipads are aboard, as is firefighting equipment. Given the yacht’s expedition purpose, multiple refrigerator and freezer rooms are on the lower deck, by most of the crew cabins. A few crew cabins accompany the captain’s cabin on the wheelhouse deck.
