It was hard to miss the smiles of the owners of Cloud 9 as their new megayacht slid down the ways at CRN earlier today. It was also hard for people in the crowd not to smile. Representing a fun change of pace for CRN, the soul-stirring theme from Star Wars, versus operatic vocals, ushered the yacht into the water.
The 242’8” (74-meter) Cloud 9 belongs to an experienced owner, who previously cruised aboard a 197-footer (60-meter) built at CMN in 2009. The owner tapped the same interior designer from that project, Andrew Winch Designs. The owner’s representatives from Burgess Technical Services worked early on with CRN’s in-house engineering department to specify systems and review related aspects. All of this is wrapped within styling from Zuccon International Project.
As much as her nearly 243-foot LOA is impressive to see, Cloud 9 bears equally impressive volume. She encompasses more than 10,764 square feet (1,000 square meters) spread over five decks, plus a sub deck. The 44-foot (13.5-meter) beam lends a commodious feel to the alfresco and interior areas, too. For example, Cloud 9 reserves a good-size alfresco space forward of the master suite for the owner. As you might expect, a beach club, with an extended platform, invites all guests to come and spend some time. Overall, the owner wanted a good flow between enclosed and open spaces aboard for everyone.
On private cruises, Cloud 9 can take 16 guests, while on charter, she’ll have a maximum of 12. (Six guest cabins and a VIP accompany the master.) Furthermore, 22 crewmembers, along with four personal staff, will travel onboard.
Cloud 9 embarks on her maiden voyage in April. Sea trials in the coming weeks should confirm a cruising speed of 15 knots and top speed of 16½ knots under Caterpillar power.
