Yacht owners don’t just attend launch and christening ceremonies. It’s equally exciting to see the shipyard craftspeople attach the traditional ceremonial coin to the keel. Yesterday, the owner of a project from Cantieri di Pisa’s Custom Division had that opportunity. His Cantieri di Pisa Custom 40 yacht began the build process with the yard’s management team and many of the shipyard workers on hand, too.

The owner, who’s French, signed the contract just a few months ago. The 131-footer (40-meter) is for quite a big party, 12 in total, along with an equally large 10-person crew, besides the captain. Similarly surprising, she’s four decks high. If you’re getting the impression the owner wants something truly different, you’re correct.
Take, for instance, those crew cabins. Four are below decks—as are five guest staterooms—but two further cabins are elsewhere. Specifically, both the captain’s cabin and the first officer’s cabin are on the bridge deck. Additionally, pantries are on every single deck. Typically, megayachts of this size have just one extra pantry adjacent to the skylounge. Also, the owner plans to carry a large tender, 21’6” (6.6 meters), aboard. It stows in a lateral-launching garage amidships, which contains more watertoys as well.

With a volume just under 500 gross tons, the Cantieri di Pisa Custom 40 yacht isn’t entirely different than most. In fact, the owner wants a main-deck master suite, further with a terrace area. There’s a main saloon, too, the primary interior area for good times with family and friends. A hot tub sits on the aft main deck as well, since it doesn’t suit a full pool, and folding bulwarks create a nearly limitless feel. Finally, plenty of loose furnishings, chaise lounges, and sunbeds are amid the decks.
Although the Cantieri di Pisa Custom 40 yacht is entirely tailored, she retains a family air. Styling and naval architecture are from Antonio Luxardo of Optima Design, who further became the shipyard’s chief designer last year. Luxardo has incorporated lines reminiscent of some of Cantieri di Pisa’s renowned models, particularly by calling attention to the air-intake grills with a black and white scheme.

Featuring a steel hull and aluminum and fiberglass superstructure, the Cantieri di Pisa Custom 40 yacht should top out at 15 knots. Upon delivery, her owner intends to spend some extended periods onboard, and possibly offer the yacht for charter.
