Some owners want super-modern-looking motoryachts. Traditional styling, meanwhile, tugs at the heartstrings of some others. What about those who want a little of both? Cantieri di Pisa’s new Saturno series blends both. Starting with the Saturno 56 yacht, you’ll find the most in-demand amenities wrapped in a design that is undoubtedly from the shipyard.
The Saturno series yachts are, depending on the LOA, composite, aluminum, or aluminum and steel. Sizes are from 128 to 295 feet (39 to 90 meters). “This range has a classic layout that reprises Cantieri di Pisa’s traditional stylistic hallmarks,” notes Antonio Luxardo, the yard’s chief designer. As the Saturno 56 yacht shows, these include black and white lines on the hull sides and ribbon-like windows. Simultaneously, Luxardo says, the series “satisfies demand from contemporary owners of all ages for spaces that alternate moments of relaxation and sport, as well as ensuring light-filled settings thanks to significantly larger glazed surfaces.”
Despite the model’s name, the Saturno 56 yacht is actually 57 meters LOA, or 187 feet. Besides the already-mentioned classic shipyard style elements, you’ll further find a traditional enclosed transom. Inside, of course, is a beach club, accessible via an internal stairway to the main deck. The stern has three opening sides, too, a universal design dating back more than a decade. Finally, no motoryacht of the past several decades has been complete without a sundeck. The Saturno 56 yacht follows suit, with open-air areas as well as an enclosed gym.
To cater to the current way of living on the water, Cantieri di Pisa brought m2atelier onboard. The design studio will work with clients to tailor the looks. That said, however, the studio believes preserving the connection to the outside is a top proirity no matter someone’s tastes. It therefore takes pains not to obstruct the nearly floor-to-ceiling glass, instead using floating furniture. It further believes eliminating redundant rooms helps support the more relaxed lifestyle so many owners and guests enjoy at sea.
This isn’t to say that you won’t find some familiar spaces. There’s still a main saloon, for instance. But, it’s pretty sizable, nearly 970 square feet (90 square meters). A nearly 37-foot (11-meter) beam heightens the sense of spaciousness. Yet another familiar layout aspect: six staterooms.
From bridge deck to lower deck, neutral tones characterize the fabrics, carpeting, and wallpaper. This keeps the mood warm and welcoming, without looks detracting from the seascapes. Two-tone, 3D wood designs overhead and underfoot lend some more visual appeal, as do subtle brass joints and small spotlights overhead.
Ultimately, Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic of m2atelier say they’re using “a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity to exemplify the sea-loft concept.” They want to help owners of the Saturno 56 yacht enjoy “the sense of freedom typical of these contemporary open-plan architectural designs that are ideal for third-millennium families.”
