In the early hours of April 5, an explorer yacht that truly will explore launched at Mengi Yay Yachts. The yacht Gray Wolf bears a hull for cruising in icy waters, the creature comforts for tropical and cool climes, and more.
With an LOA of 172 feet (53.5 meters), Gray Wolf is the largest launch to date from the Turkish builder. A semi-custom project, she’s in the Virtus XP series. This series is for owners and families seeking to cross oceans, pursuing horizons far north and south. Simultaneously, it affords the chance to own a private vessel that is—as this superyacht’s name suggests—a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She may appear to be a modern, Med-oriented yacht, but taking on less-than-ideal sea conditions is a key pledged capability.

To that end, the yacht Gray Wolf bears naval architecture from Van Oossanen Naval Architects. With steel and aluminum construction, the superyacht additionally holds RINA classification. Specifically, she complies with RINA Ice Class standards, which mean she has reinforced sections for navigating in thin ice. To fulfill her owner’s desire to reach far-off destinations, 17,171 gallons (65,000 liters) of fuel are aboard, too. Sea trials over the next several days should confirm the performance hits the right marks. According to Mengi Yay, the yacht Gray Wolf is set to cruise at 12 knots and top out at 15 knots. At her most efficient speed of 10 knots, meanwhile, she should see an impressive range of 6,000 nautical miles.
These rugged, long-range abilities pair with styling and interior design by VYD Studio. Whether the owner and guests choose to take in sights out on deck or from the comforts of inside, the megayacht offers multiple areas. The long, partially sheltered main aft deck, for example, is ideal for close encounters with sea creatures—as is the beach area. Fold-down sides make it possible for guests to sit with their feet in the water. The two decks directly above have ample alfresco space as well. To get a better look at a destination’s towering peaks or scout good snorkeling spots, though, the owner benefits from a helipad aft on the upper deck.

Inside, lounges can accommodate the full owner’s party. Although Mengi Yay hasn’t revealed much about the look, the owner wanted ageless yet contemporary design cues. A total of 10 people can stay aboard for the extended journeys in mind.
The owner intends to spend time aboard this summer season, enjoying amenities like the 26-foot (8-meter) aft-deck pool. Although not yet confirmed, the yacht should make her boat-show debut at September’s Monaco Yacht Show. This will be the first time the international community can step aboard, too.
