In honor of All Hallows’ Eve, here’s a list of some of my favorite megayachts with spooky-sounding names:
Ghost: christened after the metallic-silver paint on her hull, Ghost is a 122-foot sailing yacht designed by Luca Brenta Yacht Design and built by Vitters Shipyard. She has a massive glass roof above the saloon, which yields great views of her 165-foot-tall mast. She’s speedy, too, reportedly maxing out at 28 knots.
Mostro: meaning “Monster” when translated from Italian, this 120-foot Palmer Johnson was built nearly ten years ago for the then-owner of the shipyard, who was also the head of Monster.com. Mostro’s current owner recently had her undergo an interior refit and receive a new paint job.
Sea Ghost: the 131-foot Sea Ghost has one of the most recognizable profiles around, thanks to her cockpit and crow’s nest. She was built by Feadship’s Royal De Vries, in 1985 as Gallant Lady and was also known for a few years as Lady Sandals, belonging to the founder of Sandals resorts.
Spirit: this is a 109-foot wavepiercer built by New Zealand Yachts and designed by Ken Freivokh two years ago. The special design reportedly permits her to consume 40 percent less fuel than traditional motoryachts in the same size range.
If you’re not too busy trick-or-treating, feel free to share your favorite spooky yacht names here.
