It’s nearly midnight here in Monaco, and jet lag is rapidly catching up with me, so here’s a brief update on the activities from this eve before the Monaco Yacht Show.
AMY (Admiral Mariotti Yachts) hosted a gala at a private residence to introduce its new Admiral 54 to the media and other special guests. It was to be an exciting night, with the yacht cruising by while everyone was gathered on the terrace, and with a spectacular fireworks display punctuating her arrival.
You know the saying about the best-laid plans of mice and men? Well, unfortunately that saying held true tonight. There was a mechanical problem just as the shipyard–in Genoa, Italy–was wrapping up final sea-trial tests late this afternoon. Rather than send the megayacht off for her big coming-out party without her being in the shape she should be, the staff explained, the yard decided to hold her back and fix what they said was a minor problem. Hence the reason there’s no photo in this post.
Disappointing, but these things do sometimes happen. The good news is that the yacht is expected to be in her slip at the show tomorrow. And it was still an enjoyable night, with music and yes, even the fireworks display.
I’m hoping to get a tour of the Admiral 54 tomorrow, so stay tuned for more about her.
