The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Brownie’s Third Lung have jointly issued a voluntary safety recall of air compressors that the Fort Lauderdale-based dive company manufactures.
About 1,000 units are affected by the recall, and all were sold at Brownie’s Third Lung’s factory and various marine/diving stores nationwide from July 2007 to August 2008. The recall was issued because the components can fail, leading to the stoppage of airflow and potentially causing divers to drown. Thankfully no drowning or injuries have been reported.
The specific models involved in the recall are the gas-powered direct-drive hookah compressor assemblies F280X, F390X, C270, C390, and CTD390, with the serial numbers 14421 through 15715. Dual-head electric direct-drive compressor assemblies with model numbers E250 and EC2, serial numbers 14344 through 15762, are also being recalled. All are pictured above. If you suspect you own one of these units, you can locate the serial number on a metallic plate located on the compressor’s base and on the storage case.
Even though consumers are being notified directly of this recall, it’s wise to check your equipment. If you own one of the affected products, do not use it; instead, contact your dealer for a free inspection and, if necessary, repair.
