In just under three years, a 174-foot (53-meter) sailing superyacht will glide from the waters of Vitters Shipyard for her maiden voyage. The code-named Vitters yacht Project SY 07 might fool onlookers into believing she’s from a bygone era.
With a hull length of 157 feet (48 meters), the yacht—a.k.a. Project 3097—is for an owner who enjoys cruising and racing. In fact, the owner had a clear vision for performance based on experience with both activities. The design brief for Dykstra Naval Architects called particular importance to long-range world cruising. Since a superyacht regatta or two further may make the itinerary each year, holding her own against competitors was also in the brief. As a result, the naval-architecture team has based her hull on pilot cutters, renowned for their seaworthiness and speed. The team has also taken responsiveness to the wheel into account. Additionally, the Vitters yacht Project SY 07 has a telescopic lifting keel and a mast just shy of 205 feet (62.5 meters) high. That ensures she’ll clear the renowned Bridge of the Americas at the Panama Canal at low tide.
Both her pilot cutter profile and a square-top mainsail lend the Vitters yacht Project SY 07 classic, throwback looks. So, too, does a generous aft overhang. These complement the look inside, yet another result of the owner’s quite clear ideas. Specifically, design cues from the 1920s and 1930s will highlight the main saloon, the four staterooms, and more. However, with Vripack as the interior-design studio, the owner and guests still will enjoy a little more modern ambience. Although sketches aren’t available, the notion is to make the rooms welcoming for the owner and family members whether they’re enjoying just an afternoon or longer voyages. Notably, the owner might take the wheel personally on some passages. When relaxing, though, a bar in the main saloon is going to be a centerpiece, and a showpiece.
Notably, the Vitters yacht Project SY 07 continues the shipyard’s relationship with Dykstra Naval Architects and Vripack. The trio are responsible for Project Zero, one of the largest superyachts coming this year. SY 07 will see her keel laying this coming January, with delivery in February 2029.
