It may be more well known for its numerous sailing superyachts, but Holland Jachtbouw has delivered some intrepid motoryachts, too. Project 099 will join their ranks in the coming years. She’s an 86’6” (26.4-meter) explorer that has bold cruising plans.
Being a longtime cruiser, the owner of Project 099 was intimately involved in the design brief, from the first lines put on paper. Holland Jachtbouw says some additional design details are still being finalized between them. However, a few things are indeed set. Project 099 will bear a steel hull with an ice belt. That’s due to intended itineraries in the upper Baltic and polar waters. While the megayacht will feature a flying bridge, there’s no steering station there. The sole helm is on the upper deck.
The captain of Project 099 will have a hybrid propulsion system at his fingertips, designed by Holland Jachtbouw. Recall that the shipyard created hybrid systems for two J-Class yachts, Rainbow and J8, the latter nearing completion. Holland Jachtbouw says that the owner of Project 099 wanted a quiet atmosphere for when he and guests would be onboard, which led to the selection of the hybrid system. It will also include controllable-pitch propellers operable from either or both main diesels. Holland Jachtbouw anticipates a top speed around 12½ knots and economical cruising at 10 knots.
Project 099 includes accommodations for 10 in the owner’s party. Uncommon for her LOA, the megayacht features a main-deck master suite. There’s further a full-beam (21’7”, or 6.6-meter) VIP below decks. Holland Jachtbouw has not yet revealed the decor details, or if an independent designer is collaborating with the owner. All living areas and stowage areas are being designed around long periods spent onboard.
Of course, the owner and guests will leave the yacht on occasion. Therefore, Project 099 will tote a tender—in a float-in tender garage aft.
