Six customers have already stepped up for the first six hulls of the newest Sanlorenzo series. The Sanlorenzo SX88 is what her builder calls a crossover, and what we’d term a novelty. She’s a novelty not just for the shipyard, but also for yacht buyers, particularly those new to megayachts.
The 88’6” (27-meter) motoryacht has several stand-out features. Some center on performance. Fitting for her sporty looks, the Sanlorenzo SX88 should achieve a 23-knot top speed. It comes via a Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system. It also comes via weight-saving construction, including a carbon fiber superstructure. Interestingly, the Sanlorenzo SX88 is receiving RINA’s Green Plus classification, too. A battery bank should permit systems to operate in zero-emission mode for four to eight hours.
Even with these, though, customers will likely talk more about the creature comforts. Immediately noticeable, the transom is a big, open space. It’s in sharp contrast to nearly every other offering available. The transom is part huge swim platform, part beach club, and part toy platform. To preserve the SX88’s lines, Sanlorenzo tucks the tender davit into the port-side handrail.
Most surprising, though, the Sanlorenzo SX88 offers a main-deck master in a still-flexible interior arrangement. Because the only helm station is on the flying bridge, the main deck is purely for pleasure. You can opt for your stateroom below decks, of course, accompanied by three (or even four) guest staterooms. If you go this route, the megayacht can gain a multi-function relaxation room on the main deck. Furthermore, the entire main deck can have an open-loft-like atmosphere, from fore to aft.
While we wouldn’t term it a loft, the crew’s quarters surely should be more spacious than expected, too. This comes thanks to the above-mentioned IPS package. The powerplants take up far less space in the engine room, which becomes more compact.
The Sanlorenzo SX88 represents a collaboration between the in-house design department and several prominent studios. Officina Italiana Design took care of styling. Lou Codega, renowned for sportfishing yachts and trawlers, handled naval architecture. Finally, Piero Lissoni penned the interior design.
Look for hull number one to debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. Customers who sign contracts between now and then can anticipate delivery by next summer.
Sanlorenzo plans to add more SX models, both larger and smaller, as well.
