Three years ago, Sanlorenzo introduced its SX line, what it terms a crossover series. The SX blends the looks of traditional motoryachts with those of explorer yachts and flying-bridge yachts. They may seem like disparate designs, but they actually all serve the same purpose. As proven by the Sanlorenzo SX112, the combination opens up new ways of living, literally.
The first hull of the biggest Sanlorenzo crossover model just debuted at the Genoa boat show. Sanlorenzo’s own naval architect, Luca Santella, along with Zuccon International Project put a great deal of emphasis on outdoor areas. Specifically, they focused on the lower aft deck. Rather than simply have a large swim platform, the Sanlorenzo SX112 has a 969-square-foot (90-square-meter) relaxation zone. It comes thanks to fold-down platforms to each side (top). It further comes from sliding open the glass doors leading into the gym (above). This, aboard a 111’5” (34.16-meter) megayacht. “On SX112 there is more ‘oxygen’ available with which to develop the stylistic message,” says Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project. This allows “including the ‘must have’ features the market demands today, even on vessels of more compact size.”
As much as the Sanlorenzo SX112 is a semi-custom megayacht, the build and design teams wanted to show how a different interior experience is possible, too. Therefore, like classic flying-bridge motoryachts, she has her helm up one level. Additionally, she follows an open floor plan, letting you see straight out through the forward-most ports, in the dining area (below), upon entering the saloon (above). Thanks to Lissoni & Partners, there’s even a cylindrical-glass-enclosed stairway, rather than a bulkhead concealing the passageway. The abundance of natural light and the lack of obstructions effectively accentuate the 26-foot (8-meter) beam.
Lissoni & Partners also chose natural materials for the interior design. From the flying bridge (below) to all three staterooms below decks, wood panels, tatami mats (underfoot and used as headboards), marble, and more set a soothing ambience. Furthermore, the studio purposely chose freestanding furnishings. “We have truly designed a floating villa,” Piero Lissoni says.
Your floating villa can make quick work of taking you where you wish to relax. The Sanlorenzo SX112 should top out around 23 knots and cruise around 20 knots. Four 1,000-hp Volvo Penta IPS units should additionally allow an economical cruising speed of 12 knots. Shallow-water cruising is possible, too, given six feet (1.85 meters) of draft at half load.
In related news, Sanlorenzo has teased two new megayacht models, the SP110 and ESPACE. The former pledges to employ environmentally minded technology. It’s a concept design, too. ESPACE, meanwhile, emphasizes outdoor space, with an elongated aft area. Hull number one of this metal series debuts in 2022.We’ll have more details as they become available.
