About a year from now, Solanus should set off for far-flung horizons from Cantiere delle Marche. She’ll slip into the water by the end of this year, too. Called an Acciaio 123 model, the megayacht will be the largest afloat from the Italian explorer builder.
The model name represents her LOA in feet, equivalent to 37.35 meters. (Initially, she carried the name Acciaio 118, announced in early 2017.) As for “Acciaio,” it translates to “steel” from Italian. It therefore comes as no surprise that the megayacht has a steel hull. We don’t know if “Solanus” signifies something special to the owner, though the name became public via the shipyard’s social media channels.
Cantiere delle Marche moved Solanus’ structure last month, capturing the transport on video (above). She features a round-bilge hull form designed by Hydrotec, a frequent partner of the shipyard. A bulbous bow should ensure good seakeeping, fitting for a builder whose customers embark on voyages in seas that often keep other yachts at the dock. The shipyard hasn’t revealed the anticipated range. However, Caterpillar power should be onboard.
Like an Acciaio 105 in build, Solanus has a softer styling character than other Cantiere delle Marche models. She still looks purposeful, but not as shippy. Regardless, she also has good volume. Solanus should come in at 350 gross tons.
If the owner kept the original space planning the same, then Solanus will also have six staterooms. These include a main-deck, full-beam master suite. Four crew cabins will be aboard, too. Between the hardtop-equipped upper deck and a sunning spot forward of the wheelhouse, guests get several alfresco areas to enjoy. They can dine beneath the hardtop or on the main aft deck, for example. They might even soak in the upper deck’s hot tub. At anchor, the crew can launch the nearly 20-foot (6-meter) tender from the tender garage.
