UPDATE, JUNE 12, 2024: The highly anticipated yachtfisherman from Royal Huisman, the yacht Special One, is in her owner’s hands. Delivery comes less than two months after she conducted her first sea trials. The photo below is what the view was like from her super-size cockpit during those trials, in fact, while hitting 30 knots.
Although Royal Huisman has not released more details about the design over the past few months, it does promise that she will premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. You could say that the debut of the yacht Special One at the show presents a special opportunity, since she is the world’s largest sportfishing yacht.

In the meantime, here’s a hint of what’s to come from her custom-designed laser lighting system (below). The shipyard and Fibr8, a specialist lighting company in The Netherlands, jointly created the design for this project. Unlike LEDs, lasers don’t experience gaps in the light beam. Fibr8 employs super-thin solutions, less than 1mm in diameter, plus bendable light runs that permit a wide variety of 3D line effects. Notably, the two companies previously collaborated for the yacht Phi and her laser light display.

FEBRUARY 2, 2024: After transferring by barge from its headquarters to its second shipyard in Amsterdam, the yacht Special One, a.k.a. the code-named Project 406 sportfishing yacht, launched from Royal Huisman. She’s therefore in the final stages before wetting lines as the world’s largest fishing yacht.

This massive megayacht is 171 feet (52 meters) and towers six decks high. They’re among the reasons why the designers at Vripack, responsible for styling and naval architecture, nicknamed her a “sportfisher on steroids.” She really will fish, too, and not on rare occasions. The owner, who has pursued pelagics around the world, can’t wait to put her cockpit to good use. He has his eyes on tuna, marlin, and other large game fish being at the other end of his rod. A proper fighting chair will be in the cockpit as well, in proximity to a guests’ and fellow anglers’ viewing area. Furthermore, the captain will be capable of backing this big boat down at a few knots of speed from the topmost deck.

The dimensions are simultaneously for luxurious leisure. Vripack, which is additionally responsible for interior design, cannot yet reveal many details. Neither can Royal Huisman. However, the owner’s directive for the yacht Special One was an atmosphere in which to relax and entertain when not fishing. Some guests, for instance, won’t be anglers. Overall, the look and feel should be much like a boutique hotel.

As the all-aluminum super sportfisher proceeds towards delivery, the owner isn’t the only one eager to put her to the test. Shortly after the contract signing, one of the owner’s representatives, Brett Noble from the consultancy company Bush & Noble, expressed his enthusiasm. “Having started my yachting career building luxury sportfish cruisers over two decades ago, to now be an integral part of the world’s largest true sportfish yacht is a once-in-a-lifetime privilege,” he says.
