In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare wrote, “Good friends, go in and have some wine with me. And we’ll leave together, like friends.” The owner of Wild Duck is as generous a host, with two bars and a wine cooler accommodating nearly 200 bottles of wine and liquor. Since taking delivery in summer 2019, the owner has cruised abundantly along the U.S. East Coast and among the Bahamian islands. The tailored touches aboard this Horizon RP110 reveal how focused the owner and the megayacht are on entertaining.
Hull number five in the RP110 series, Wild Duck is for a three-time Horizon customer. Back in 2012, the owner purchased a Horizon E78. Soon, though, he decided to go bigger, stepping up to a Horizon E88. When the desire for even more room took hold within recent years, the owner commissioned an RP110. Having years of experience on the water, naturally he knew how he wanted to live and entertain onboard. With Luca Dini, he designed a contemporary-looking cruiser with a warm elegance.
Grey oak pair with teak and Indian rosewood “frames,” best illustrated in the saloon (above), to echo earthy and beachy ideas of stone, sand, and wood. Similar tones flow throughout Wild Duck, too, via glass mosaics, leathers, fabrics, and additional materials. Arguably more than anywhere else aboard the 25-foot-beam (7.62-meter-beam) megayacht, the saloon embodies the spirit of entertaining. A bar aft (above) holds 31 bottles of wine and spirits. The forward bulkhead (top) is a feature wall, really, with a 72-bottle wine cooler and a further 92-bottle wine selection. It’s easy to picture good friends and family gathering, just ask Shakespeare wrote, to enjoy after-dinner drinks and conversations.
While the saloon, occupying most of the main deck, is certainly a focal space, so, too, is the country kitchen. Wild Duck does not have a formal dining area within the saloon as so many megayachts in this size range do. Instead, the more informal ambience of the country kitchen suits many meals. Note, too, the textured wall, a fiberglass substrate. Furthermore, because of the country kitchen, Wild Duck doesn’t have a main-deck master, instead situating the owner’s stateroom below decks. A full-beam VIP plus two twins that convert when needed complement it.
For making quick work of island hopping, the Horizon RP110 comes with twin 1,900-hp Caterpillar engines. The top speed is 21 knots. Since the semi-custom series has a shallow 5’10” (1.6-meter) draft, that makes it all the easier for Wild Duck to access the Bahamian islands he enjoys so much.
With alfresco areas as equally suited to entertaining as interior areas, Wild Duck continues to cruise treasured coastlines. Whether the owner requests the crew launch watertoys or ensure lunches and cocktail hours can take place on the sundeck, the megayacht has many more miles to cover in her cruising adventures.
