It’s been a busy week for Horizon. First it “teases” buyers and media alike at the Düsseldorf boat show with bare-minimum details on a new model. Then, it concludes initial sea trials on its newest megayacht, Wild Duck.
The model that Horizon is using as the equivalent of a dangling carrot is the RP102, seen above, part of its raised-pilothouse series. She fits nicely between the existing RP97 and RP110. Horizon decided to release just a handful of facts and renderings for now, holding onto full specs and details until the Palm Beach Boat Show in March. You read that right: Not even the exact LOA is being revealed, though the model name obviously gives some hints.
The few facts available: styling and the general arrangement are by Cor D. Rover Design, highlighted by a fold-down balcony on the flying bridge. In addition, tank testing and computational fluid dynamics (CFD, meaning computer analysis of the design) reportedly promise 25-percent better fuel consumption at 20 knots compared to other builders’ offerings.
We’ll have full details on the RP102 as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, it’s worth noting that the megayacht is the second model change in a few weeks for Horizon, which recently officially changed its P130 to a P136. (We reported on the change in our subscriber-only January newsletter; if you didn’t receive a copy, sign up here.)
As for Wild Duck (above), she’s an 81-footer in Horizon’s E series; she’s technically an E78 but with the addition of a fishing cockpit. The 19-foot-beam megayacht reportedly saw 20 to 21 knots at cruise and 24 to 25 knots at top speed, powered by twin 1,600-hp Caterpillar C32s. Inside, Wild Duck’s American owners chose walnut and camphor woods, both with rich tones. The woods adorn every space from the main deck, where the helm is not an in-your-face layout, to the four staterooms below decks. Up on deck, the flying bridge has familiar features like a barbecue, bar, seating, and tender stowage.
Wild Duck will make her formal debut at the Palm Beach Boat Show.
