Wider Yachts plans to offer more megayacht models, judging from preliminary details for the Wider 122.
When we say preliminary, we mean it: Wider Yachts is already making changes, though keeping details on them close to its vest. Regardless, the Italian builder feels confident enough in its Superyacht range, which presently includes the Wider 150, to present initial renderings and specifications to the public.
The Wider 122 should measure 120 feet (36.6 meters), with a 24’3” (7.4-meter) beam. A draft of 5’6” (1.7 meters) will permit the megayacht to access a variety of ports and anchorages. All aluminum, like the Wider 150, she’s meant to be an efficient and more eco-minded cruiser, relying on diesel-electric propulsion and fitted with a bulbous bow. Wider Yachts projects a top speed of 14 knots and cruising speed of 12 knots, though 10 knots should result in the best range, that being 3,900 nautical miles. Should an owner so wish, the Wider 122 can be operated solely on electric power, for a 25-nautical-mile range. Since the specific diesel-electric package has not been revealed, this could be one of the items that the design and build teams is still evaluating, as there are several providers available. However, one of the advantages of diesel-electric propulsion is the ability to locate the engine room pretty much anywhere. Preliminary plans for the Wider 122 show it fully forward on the lower deck.
Inside, the Wider 122, which will meet RINA classification, offers owners wide-open spaces. The main-deck master suite should come complete with a fold-down balcony off an intimate private seating area, similar to what the Wider 150 offers. Accommodations are below decks for eight guests, sure to be arranged with twins or queens as buyers see fit. Dining and more can be made to feel like an alfresco experience, thanks to large ports and sliding doors.
We’ll have more on the Wider 122 when Wider Yachts finalizes the full design.
In other Wider news, the Wider 150, a new megayacht project announced last year, underwent tank test evaluations this summer. Wider reports that the results were right in line with what was initially projected in terms of performance.
