The Wider 150 and Wider 165 are gaining a little sister, the Wider 125. She embraces the alfresco-oriented features that have gained renown for the Italian builder, along with an emphasis on diesel-electric propulsion for efficiency. The latter makes the Wider 125 the only yacht in her size range to offer this.
Wider Yachts is starting the all-aluminum megayacht on spec. As the illustration below shows, the Wider 125 will have fold-down platforms to maximize the owners’ and guests’ enjoyment of the outdoors. The owners have a private terrace off the study that’s part of the main-deck master suite. Naturally, it occupies the full beam, 26 feet (7.93 meters).
There are two suggested interior arrangements for the Wider 125, one for the American market and one for the European market. These two regions are where Wider is meeting with the most success. The U.S version features the galley on the main deck, with a gym below decks. In the European layout, the galley goes below decks, where the gym/stateroom would be. The freed-up space on the main deck therefore can become a flexible part of the master suite. It can be a family room, a gym, or a combo kids’ and nanny cabin. Either way, guests get four staterooms below decks, and crew get three cabins down here. The captain is housed aft of the wheelhouse. The guest staterooms in particularly should be larger than you’d expect, given the more compact size of the engine room due to the propulsion system.
That propulsion system incorporates variable-speed gensets, which can take on full operations independent of the diesels. They will also handle the Wider 125’s hotel load. Tilli Antonelli, the founder of Wider Yachts, says the yacht should burn just 20 gph (75.7 lph) at 10 knots. That same speed should permit a best range of 3,600 nautical miles. Top speed is expected at 14 knots.
Imagine the views at that speed through the floor-to-ceiling windows lining the saloon. In true Wider fashion and in keeping with modern tastes, the Wider 125 also allows the skylounge and upper aft deck to become an indoor-outdoor area. Sun lounges can be set up out here, or guests can head forward to the seating area tucked into the wheelhouse structure.
Similar to the Wider 165, the Wider 125 will have a pool inside the beach club. The tender garage goes forward of here, also in similar fashion. An 18-foot (5.5-meter) boat can be accompanied by PWCs and the rescue tender, launched via an overhead crane.
We’ll have to wait until 2017 to see the Wider 125 in the water, so for now, here’s more of how she’ll look:
