Winter service work is heating up at Royal Huisman. The Dutch builder’s refit division, Huisfit, has an extensive project just starting: the refit of the 10-year-old ketch Adèle.

A global cruiser, the 179’2” (54.64-meter) Adèle was delivered by Vitters and designed by Hoek Design. The scope of the work that Huisfit is set to perform ranges from aesthetics to mechanical. For example, part of her caprail will be replaced, as will her teak decks. Minor interior changes are also taking place. Some of her interior lighting is also being upgraded to LEDs, further a practical solution, since it saves energy consumption and lasts longer than incandescent lighting. Additional practical changes including upgrading navigation and communication equipment.
As for mechanical changes, the Huisfit team is giving Adèle new air-conditioning equipment and new batteries. Gensets, thrusters, propellers, and related equipment are being serviced and refurbished if needed. The inside and outside of the hull, plus Adèle’s superstructure and rig are being repainted and/or revarnished, too.
Adèle is a significant project for Huisfit because she’s the first to take advantage of the reconstructed refit shed. Royal Huisman invested in expanding its size, as well as that of the adjacent paint shed, completing the works last summer. The goal was to make projects up to 295 feet (90 meters) flow more efficiently.
