Big boats stir up big excitement among yacht watchers. So it’s no surprise that the newest video footage of Project Shu in Germany garnered about 1,000 views on YouTube in less than 48 hours.
In build at Lürssen, the massive megayacht seems to measure a minimum of 426 feet (130 meters). “Seems” is the operative word. The builder has not commented on the project thus far. This is likely due to confidentiality agreements, increasingly becoming the norm for the biggest yachts in build worldwide. The length is therefore an estimate, based on the dimensions of other significant-size superyachts sitting outside the Lürssen sheds in recent months. Regardless, also due to the lack of public information, the stylist, naval architect, and interior designer remain unknown. So, too, do details on the interior arrangement.
But, following Project Shu’s float-out late last year, the public got an idea of some of her alfresco features. Rising five decks, with a nicely contrasting grey hull and white superstructure, Project Shu has two helipads, for instance. Aerial imagery reveals one is just at the bow, while the other is on the uppermost level, aft of the mast.
The footage here, shot last week, shows a good deal of activity still taking place onboard. Several craftspeople are seen walking past the full-height glass on different decks. You—and, eventually, the owners and guests—can better appreciate the appeal of that glass thanks to cut outs in the bulwarks on the main deck.
Given her apparent level of completion, Project Shu should see delivery within the next several months. She’ll then become one of the largest private yachts worldwide, easily ranking in the top 20. If her LOA exceeds 426 feet/130 meters, she could very well rank within the top 15. Stay tuned.
