As expected, the court-ordered Axioma auction will take place this summer. Set for August 23, it comes five months after her arrest over an unpaid loan.
On March 22, Gibraltar authorities arrested Axioma following an admiralty claim from J.P Morgan. The bank alleged, and a court agreed, that Pyrene Investments, the British Virgin Islands-based registered owner, failed to uphold a mortgage loan agreement. J.P. Morgan submitted documents indicating it loaned €20.5 million in December 2021. Additionally, Dmitry Pumpyansky, a Russian steel magnate who’s reportedly her ultimate beneficial owner, signed a loan guarantee. However, the United Kingdom (whose sanctions Gibraltar upholds) and the European Union sanctioned him in mid-March, related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Once that occurred, his assets froze. J.P. Morgan’s legal team argued that the sanctions equated a loan-agreement breach. Additionally, the team said, a further beach occurred when another individual acquired shares of Pyrene Investments’ parent company on March 4. Last month, the Gibraltar Supreme Court ordered the yacht’s sale, with the date for the Axioma auction set just this week.
The 236-foot (72-meter) yacht currently sits in Gibraltar. The Axioma auction is an “as is, where is” sale. With an enviable charter track record, the nine-year-old megayacht features naval architecture by Sterling Scott Yacht Design and interiors by the late Alberto Pinto. Several decks as well as amenities make her stand out. For instance, the main deck is home to four guest suites as well as the full-beam VIP suite. Two of the guest staterooms can change from doubles to twins. As for the VIP, the megayacht’s beam is a remarkable 40 feet (12.2 meters).
Of course, the master suite is remarkable, too, part of an entire owner’s deck. A glass elevator leads from the main deck directly into a private study/lounge. One hundred eighty degrees of glass in the sleeping area allows for enviable views. Better still, though, a partition in the ceiling opens to reveal a glass roof, for sleeping under the stars. Counting stars is easier when amid the intimate alfresco seating and dining areas just forward of here. And, while all of this deck thus far is entirely private, the owner can dine with guests outside fully aft. A large table accommodates 16 people.
Throughout the interior, Pinto combines and contrasts colors and materials. Specifically, the woods, leathers, metals and glass create a chic beach house ambience akin to that of the Cote d’Azur or even Capri in Italy.
All of the furnishings and accessories are included in the Axioma auction. The yacht further retains a double-height, atrium-like-ceilinged saloon, an infinity pool, a gym, a spa and steam room, a cinema, and an additional media room. Accommodations for 20 crew are aboard, too.
