Fish farms seem like a strange place for a superyacht, and they are—in most cases. However, the owners of the yacht Kaşif commissioned the project as a floating office when they need to access their offshore business, as much as a family home. Practical, safe navigation even in challenging conditions and a long cruising range fulfill their business needs and adventurous souls. Simultaneously, the interior makes a powerful statement of its own. Altogether, the yacht Kaşif, whose name means “explorer” in Turkish, leaves no doubt as to her dual purposes.

In fact, the overarching idea was for a super-chic explorer. With the project constructed at Bilgin Yachts, the owners benefitted from a hull design based on one of its previous projects. Specifically, the naval-architecture studio Unique Yacht Design optimized the form it used for the Bilgin 263 series. The shipyard’s own engineering team further performed a number of Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses, a common practice. The team wanted to reduce pitch and roll plus bow waves for the times when the yacht Kaşif would encounter rough conditions. Additionally, since range was important to the owners, Bilgin Yachts says she should achieve upwards of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.

For the interiors, the owners—one of whom is an architect—collaborated with Hot Lab. They conveyed a desire for a modern megayacht, with striking curves for geometric interest plus some nautical elements. The studio says this was a challenge, yet “one of the most fun and stimulating projects that we have had in recent years.” Part of that resulted from the owners being “exceptional people, always available, understanding and collaborative.”

Together, they created a distinctive, forceful style for the yacht Kaşif, where details help distinguish different areas. For instance, although each deck has some continuity of style, different tones and textures lend differences. Below decks in the five guest staterooms, pastels set the mood in dyed woods and sugar paper. A bolder statement comes on the main deck, where burgundy leaps from the entry arch to the saloon. The same color appears in lacquered furniture surfaces, too. Finally, deeper tones characterize the upper-deck saloon and dining area, as well as the owners’ office.

Though the owners took delivery last year, they have the yacht for sale, for €20.9 million (about $23.3 million at press time). She’s at this week’s Monaco Yacht Show, available for viewing.
