Ever since the first megayacht beach club appeared, build and design teams have tried to maximize that water-level space for owners and guests. Most of the efforts have involved adding side-opening platforms, for a nearly 180-degree alfresco experience. Sunseeker, however, has taken a different approach. Its 90 Ocean beach club has transformable sunning and seating that in turn capitalize on both waterside and aft-deck advantages.
The megayacht—which began as the Sunseeker 8X in 2019 and changed again later that year—is a semi-custom model, as you would expect. What you don’t expect, though, is just how flexible the aft alfresco area is. Since the transom is recessed, for example, you can stow a RIB and a PWC on the swim platform, which lowers for launching. Plus, you can stow SeaBobs in self-draining lockers in the sole. This entire area measures more than 20 by 13 feet (6 by 4 meters), onboard an 89-footer (27.1-meter).
There’s more, too. The part of the transom bearing the megayacht’s name flips down at the press of a button. At this point, you see the beginnings of the big attraction of the 90 Ocean beach club. Built-in chaise lounges appear, what Sunseeker has trademarked as its X-TEND system. Use the lounges as seating for your full family right at the water’s edge (at top and above). It’s great for keeping an eye on the kids while they’re swimming or using the watertoys, for instance. Of course, it’s also great for simply relaxing and enjoying the views at anchor. However, the seats don’t need to remain here. In fact, flick a switch, and the seats instead rise up and face forward into the aft deck (below).
Additionally, a few more features make the 90 Ocean beach club a real draw. A built-in barbecue and countertop make snacks or meals convenient. For those of you who live to play in the water all day, you’ll appreciate the retractable swim steps, a.k.a. SeaStair (below). Use the same stairs to exit the water and use the big rain shower before heading inside to change for dinner.
With a roomy saloon (18 feet/5.6 meters wide), sliding glass by the dining area, and floor-to-ceiling glass, the Sunseeker 90 Ocean certainly has alluring interior areas. Those areas further include three guest staterooms below decks. But, one more alfresco area warrants attention. The foredeck has central sunpads with adjustable (electrically) backrests that become movie lounges at nighttime. Sunseeker supplies a projector as well as a 140-inch screen for this purpose.
With a top speed close to 26 knots, the Sunseeker 90 Ocean keeps with the shipyard’s history of sporty performers. Simultaneously, she breaks new styling and lifestyle ground. Sunseeker isn’t done yet, either. Specifically, it’s working on its largest-ever project, the 50M Ocean. She’ll also be its first metal yacht, launching in 2023. She’ll join more than 141 yachts exceeding 100 feet handed over since 2000.
