Two months after Wider Yachts revealed its second catamaran series, it’s now revealing that construction is well underway. Hull number one of the WiderCat 76 yacht series already has hydraulics and several other systems in place. Painting starts soon on the hardtop, too. It’s all on spec because “we’re so confident in its appeal,” asserts Marcello Maggi, president of Wider Yachts’ parent company.
The model is ideal for easing small-catamaran connoisseurs into the superyacht sector. In fact, Maggi says, “The WiderCat 76 provides the allure of a superyacht with the agility of a smaller craft.” She certainly has the space of a much bigger boat. The beam is 34 feet (10.48 meters), for example, comparable to that of a 213- to 230-footer (65- to 70-meter). Additionally, owners can wake up in an ample suite on the main deck, with direct access to a terrace-like alfresco seating area forward. All of this comes in a yacht whose LOA is 76 feet (23 meters).
As for her agility, the catamaran has twin FPT engines below decks, with a battery bank handling air conditioning and other creature comforts. A battery-management system monitors electricity needs and balances loads. Wider Yachts anticipates the Wider 76 yacht to top out at 13 knots. Additionally, it says owners can enjoy up to nine hours at anchor relying solely on the batteries.
With the engine-room machinery currently coming aboard, Wider Yachts is simultaneously working on the interiors. It’s pretty far along, in fact, with the three lower-deck staterooms. Dark-oak ceilings are visible in the VIP and other guest cabins, for example, the same material that will characterize ceilings on the main deck. Lacquered, ivory-toned wall panels and herringbone parquet soles complete the look. Wider Yachts’ Centro Stile and Luca Dini Design & Architecture are collaborating on the layout and décor. The shipyard calls it a re-imagined Hamptons aesthetic, with yachting flair.
Of course, given the family focus of so many boat buyers currently, the WiderCat 76 yacht prioritizes spending time together. The open-plan saloon and dining area allow everyone to watch the scenery pass by, for instance. Most days, meals likely will take place on the upper deck, in the open air beneath the hardtop, or on the main aft deck. For chill-out time, there’s the bow lounge, with a C-shape settee. When the sea’s allure is just too hard to resist, a swim platform deploys from between the hulls.
The project is on pace for launching next year.
