A sailing superyacht exceeding 262 feet (80 meters) is under contract for a repeat customer of Royal Huisman. The yacht Project 412 is under a publicity embargo, preventing the majority of details from becoming public at this point. However, once she is in her owner’s hands, she will rank among the 10 largest sailing yachts in the world.
Royal Huisman can only disclose a few general facts about the design. Firstly, she will feature all-aluminum construction. Secondly, the yacht Project 412 will carry a carbon fiber rig from Royal Huisman’s sister company, Rondal. The owner is intent on circumnavigating, too, and wants a performance-oriented experience. Although the conceptual drawing (below) from Royal Huisman includes three sails, the yard hasn’t confirmed whether she’ll have a schooner rig.

Despite the publicity blackout, the LOA is significant. Extra-large sailing yachts are slowly gaining a bit more of a foothold in the market. Notably, the LOA of the Royal Huisman yacht Project 412 is close to that of another Royal Huisman, Project 410. In build (top) for delivery next year, Project 410 is a 279-footer (85-meter). She’s the largest yacht currently in build at the shipyard, too. Additionally, as mentioned, the new Project 412 will join the ranks of the 10 largest sailing yachts in the world upon delivery. (That date is yet to be revealed, but it’s possibly in 2027 or 2028.) Two Royal Huisman deliveries are already in the top 10. Specifically, Athena, a 295-footer (90-meter) from 2004, is number four. Sea Eagle II, a 266-footer (81-meter) from 2020, is number seven.
Although the overwhelming majority of superyachts are power projects, Royal Huisman continues to see strong desire among sailing enthusiasts. In fact, among the 100 largest yachts of any kind on the water, only three are sailing projects. “We are honored to embark on this new super-sized sailing yacht project for a returning owner,” says Jan Timmerman, the CEO. “Every yacht we create reflects the depth of experience and dedication we have cultivated over the past 140 years.”
