Damen Yachting is currently conducting sea trials on its third YS53 launch. Since construction has been on spec, the project remains available for delivery in time for summer. The Yacht Support 5303 project has the flexibility owners want in a support yacht. She’s capable of carrying all sorts of overflow watertoys and guests, yet also capable of being a primary yacht in her own right.

In fact, this flexibility has led to strong success for Damen Yachting. To date, it has delivered nearly two dozen projects like this. While the YS53 series is still relatively new, the 174-foot (53-meter) LOA has attracted some high-profile buyers. Hull number one, for instance, is Bad Company Support, belonging to fishing fanatic Anthony Hsieh. Already, she’s covered more nautical miles in her first year on the water than some superyachts cover in a lifetime. Hull number two, meanwhile, became Five Oceans, for Tommy Allen to uphold and promote ocean conservation.

While each YS53 series yacht is different from the other, they share styling and naval architecture by Damen Yachting. Note, for example, the utilitarian profile. This complements engineering for taking on challenging seas and remaining stalwart in cruising far-flung destinations. The yachting division borrowed a time-tested design, the Axe Bow, from Damen’s commercial vessel division. Briefly, this design incorporates a knife-like bow and a hull engineered for consistency of speed and reliable performance, including fuel efficiency, regardless of weather conditions. The same bow keeps spray down off the deck.

Additionally, Damen Yachting anticipated that the ultimate owner would want guests to stay aboard, whether as a shadow yacht or a primary yacht. The Yacht Support 5303 therefore has four staterooms. A further handful of cabins accommodate the captain and 10 crewmembers. Of course, the buyer can request changes to the overall look.

The eventual owner can, though, put some pretty big tenders and toys on the main aft deck. The hefty crane already onboard means lifting a personal sub should be no issue, for instance, Nor should be keeping a handful of PWCs, RIBs, limo tenders, and crew tenders together on deck.
