A 175-footer (53-meter) is a sizable yacht. Pair her with a 43-foot (13-meter) lean, mean fishing machine, and you have two members of the Bad Company Fishing Adventures fleet. They’re much more than a tender and a yacht carrying her, though. Bad Company Support, the Bad Company Fishing Adventures mothership, is the heart and soul of a super-ambitious, super-exciting pursuit of record-breaking fish.
A longtime boater and extraordinarily passionate angler, Anthony Hsieh took delivery of the yacht in May of last year (bottom). The American entrepreneur loves sportfishing, yet also recognizes the importance of ocean research and discovery, especially tagging fish. He’s therefore documenting his fleet’s operations—involving two other motherships, along with dozens of smaller craft—in remote global locations. The video you’re about to watch was filmed just a few months after taking delivery of the 175-foot Bad Company Fishing Adventures mothership. In fact, filming occurred several weeks prior to Bad Company Support, her 43-foot Release Gameboat, private sub, helicopter, and more heading to Mozambique. It was an 8,0000-nautical-mile trip from Europe, requiring lots of prep work, especially to ensure the tools of the fishing focus were in top shape.
Since the video is documentary-style, you get to meet the key crewmembers who are collaborating to make Hsieh’s dream possible. They’re dreaming right alongside him, too, since some of them have never visited the countries on the itinerary. Regardless of where they have or haven’t been, none have traveled the world the way they’re doing now. Similarly, none have ever handled such a wide assortment of tenders and other craft in such a way. In fact, as one crewmember puts it when figuring out where to stow the 43 on deck, it’s a lot “like a game of Tetris.”
This genuine revelation, and the genuine excitement they reveal, make you feel as if you’re on the adventures with them. Certainly, that’s the idea behind filming aboard the Bad Company Fishing Adventures mothership and fleet—which has exciting plans in the works for this year, too. Currently, she’s in the Seychelles area, having already departed Mozambique. She’ll spend the rest of this year in the Indian Ocean as well. Next year’s plans are just as ambitious, with the Great Barrier Reef being among the destinations.
Three motherships, three years of targeting trophy blue marlin in all three global oceans. Add in black marlin in two oceans and other pelagics wherever they can find them, and the result in the promise of great filming. You can continue following their fishing adventures on their YouTube channel, as one of 44,000 subscribers. Better yet, you can get access to videos early, plus learn the latest on the Bad Company Crew website. There’s further an ESPN special in the works. It all comes down to one simple summary from a crewmember: “It’s going to be a different dimension to yachting.”
