Whereas Wally sailing yachts attract some of the most passionate cruisers and racers, Wallypower craft attract those who thrill to speeds on the Mediterranean Sea. While the 118 Wallypower was one of the first, the subsequent powerboats have been in the sub-100-foot (30-meter) size range. In addition, Wally’s founder, Luca Bassani, has been the sole designer. All of this is now changing. Going much bigger and therefore much bolder, Bassani teamed with Espen Øino for the 165 Wallypower.
Basani and Øino appeared together at a press event at the Monaco Yacht Show to unveil the project. “I’ve always been a great admirer of Luca,” Øino says. Basani echoes Øino, saying he has long admired the Monaco-based designer. “Finally, I have the opportunity to work with Espen!” he enthuses. He adds that, since fast opens really haven’t evolved much in recent years, the 165 Wallpower gives the market something new to consider.
For the 163’7” (49.9-meter) project, Øino kept styling faithful to her edgy sister, the 118. Therefore, the 165 Wallypower is super-sharp, super-angular, with large, clean, open decks. “Minimal” is an apt description, too, since rails and deck gear are sparse. The traditional Wallypower glass superstructure, versus solid bulkheads, reappears as well.
Of course, the 165 Wallypower taps into what megayacht owners and guests like. For instance, the aft deck is for sunning and lounging, additionally fitted with fold-down platforms for a broader beach club feel. The owners’ party of 10 have a 49-foot-long (15-meter-long) sundeck to enjoy as well. It’s quite sizable for this LOA. Furthermore, for the ultimate aerie, a raised observation settee is up here. Grab a drink from the bar and watch approaching shores come into view. Or, stretch out on the sunpad and enjoy the ride.
This 499-gross-ton yacht welcomes the owners and guests into a comforting interior, as you’d expect. The saloon and dining areas are just inside the aft-deck doors, with fold-down balconies to each side brining more of the outside in. The same is true in the master suite fully forward. Guests get accommodations below decks, as do up to 10 crewmembers.
Wally, which recently completed the first 48 Wallytender under the ownership of the Ferretti Group, is renowned for good seakeeping and speed. The 165 Wallypower should see 30 knots under diesel and waterjet propulsion. You can make quick work of coastal cruising and island hopping as a result.
The first hull is not yet in build, awaiting a buyer for customization.
