UPDATE, NOVEMBER 12, 2019: Hull number one of the Amels 60 is under contract. Delivery takes place in 2022. Read on for our original article.
She’ll be ready for delivery in 2022, and can be in your hands, too. Meet the Amels 60, a 197-footer (60-meter) marking latest semi-custom offering in the shipyard’s Limited Editions series. What’s more, she features hybrid propulsion.
For the past several days on social media, Amels has been teasing this new megayacht. While steel cutting starts soon, planning for the Amels 60 began about three years ago, with Espen Øino as the stylist. The triangular-like shape of the ports along the main deck is arguably the most notable aspect in that styling. Øino himself agrees, saying “She will be instantly recognizable when she hits the water.”
Yet another noteworthy aspect is the sundeck. Specifically, it’s quite long, nearly half the length of the entire Amels 60. Speaking of long, the megayacht carries a nearly 30-foot (9-meter) limo tender, larger than you’d expect for such a project, particularly as a standard inclusion. This tender, as well as other toys, sit on the foredeck, with a dedicated crane.
Few details are available on the hybrid propulsion, unfortunately. For now, the shipyard says it’s an in-house development. Of course, hybrid propulsion offers lower sound and vibration, as well as lower emissions. The Amels 60 should be able to cruise up to 7 knots on the electric motors alone. In customary conditions, she should see a 15.5-knot top speed and 4,500-nautical-mile range at 13 knots.
A handful of details, however, are available on creature comforts. Studio Indigo is designing the Amels 60’s interior. Bearing a 34-foot (10.4-meter) beam, the 830-gross-ton megayacht has a suggested light palate, to keep her feeling and looking airy. In fact, the general arrangement makes spaces feel, and look, more open. Further looking and feeling airy, the master suite has a deploying balcony, perfect for mornings at anchor. Overall, the yacht accommodates a party of 12, with a crew of 12 plus the captain.
This is the second collaboration between Amels and Øino. They joined together for the 78-meter Amels Full Custom, a.k.a. Project 77. She’ll be ready in 2021.
