One of the world’s most famous yachts can treat you to next month’s Monaco Grand Prix. Of course, a charter aboard the yacht Carinthia VII holds far more in store, too.
According to Fraser Yachts, her central charter agent, Carinthia VII will be available for booking in the area during the race. Televisions aboard can show the close-up action, so that no matter where you move amid her six decks, you can follow your favorite driver.
While plenty of yachts offer charters during the Monaco Grand Prix, Carinthia VII stands out for multiple reasons. For one, this is her first full year of charter availability. Notably, from launch in 2002 until 2022, she was purely private, cruising with her original owner, the late Heidi Horten. (Horten was an avid art collector and philanthropist, plus the widow of a German department store founder.) Horten ensured she underwent proper maintenance over those two decades.
Secondly, the 318-footer (97-meter) sleeps 12 guests plus up to five others (personal assistants or nannies, for example). These and other areas underwent a combination of a restoration and transformation during a 10-month refit from 2022 to 2023. The current owner, who acquired the yacht in late 2022, sent her to Lürssen, her builder, for the work. The original footprint of each stateroom, from the dedicated owner’s deck (additionally with a VIP stateroom) to the six guest cabins on the main deck, remains. Remarkably, the original interior Chantilly parquet flooring throughout the yacht was in excellent condition. Equally remarkable, the owner wanted to keep all of it. As a further nod to the history of the yacht Carinthia VII, some original furnishings complement the refreshed, light, welcoming ambience aboard.
Whether you book a charter for the Monaco Grand Prix or another time, a few other areas deserve your closer attention. Firstly, the gym on the bridge deck was an addition. It’s about 915 square feet (85 square meters), with sliding glass panels to open it up. That’s six tons of glass and steel framing, by the way, not insignificant, requiring extra consideration for loads and balance. Secondly, a 36-foot-long (11-meter-long) pool is another new feature, aft on the main deck. It’s raised, nicely shaded in part by the overhang of the deck above. (As to why it’s not within the deck, a common question, consider that the tender garage is directly beneath.) Lastly, the walls of the central stairway are a study in creative design. The blue tones of the leather are rich and deep on the lowest level, progressively lightening as you climb through the decks.
With a volume upwards of 3,600 gross tons and full-height glass in many areas, Carinthia VII defied her original era. The enormous amount of work in 10 months—much of it technical—to have her meet charter market requirements lets her hold her own among recent deliveries.
Carrying a crew of 33, the yacht Carinthia VII has a weekly charter rate of €1.4 million (about $1.5 million at press time).
