Spectators are taking in racecars making 78 laps along the Monaco Grand Prix course this weekend. Simultaneously, they’re taking in the superyachts. More than seven dozen have docked along prestigious parts of the course or are at anchor. Among the megayachts making the Monaco Grand Prix this year, you’ll find the following.
Ahpo. The largest yacht in the principality for the race (above), Ahpo is 377’6” (115.1 meters) LOA. She’s from Lürssen and Nuvolari-Lenard. The latter studio handled both styling and interior design, for a repeat client, too. Delivery of the yacht, which went by the code name Project Enzo during construction, took place just last year. The owner hails from Canada.
Faith. She’s the second-largest among megayachts making the Monaco Grand Prix this year. LOA: 317 feet (96.6 meters). The five-year-old Feadship has a special tie to Formula 1 racing. The son of her Canadian owner races for Aston Martin.
Force Blue. Yet another yacht with strong ties to Formula 1. Bernie Ecclestone, a former team owner, acquired her at auction early last year. The auction resulted from Italy seizing her from her prior owner, Flavio Briatore, in 2010, charging him with tax fraud related to the yacht. (Briatore himself managed an F1 team in the 1990s, too.) Twelve years and six trials later, an Italian court overturned the conviction. Ecclestone, a friend of Briatore’s, had the Lusben shipyard perform a major refit this year of Force Blue It included lengthening to her current LOA, 230 feet (70 meters). Previously, she was 207 feet (63 meters) long.
Man of Steel. This 282-footer (86-meter) is docked trackside at the Monaco Grand Prix. Her owner had a same-named yacht several years ago, though smaller. Fun fact: Her name refers to her owner’s business interests, that being (you guessed it) steel. He acquired this Oceanco (above), a.k.a. Seven Seas at launch and delivery, late last year.
The Wellesley. If her name is familiar, it may be because she’s a reality-TV star. The Wellesley appeared in Below Deck Mediterranean, though under the pseudo name The Wellington. This 184-footer (above) is a perennially popular charter yacht, with a 1920s-era décor.
Sirocco. Yet another of the trackside megayachts making the Monaco Grand Prix, Sirocco shares something with The Wellesley, too. Namely, the 154-footer (47-meter) has starred in Below Deck Mediterranean. However, she’s appeared twice.
