X100 Triplex Yacht Series From Extra Yachts Reflects Different Design Ideas

The X100 Triplex yacht series is the latest high-volume semi-custom cruiser from Extra Yachts. While the line shares commonalities with her sisterships, the shipyard chose to bring in new design partners.

The model joins a lineup that includes two other projects, specifically the X130 Triplex and X96 Triplex. (On a related side note, the yacht Super Mario recently became the latest X96 Triplex launch.) Interestingly, unlike a lot of shipyards with multiple-model series, Extra Yachts doesn’t have just one studio for styling and one for interiors. Instead, it has chosen individual design teams for the exterior lines of each model, and the same for the general arrangement and décor.

Therefore, this time around, the exterior styling is from Studio Agon. Studio Agon’s head is Lorenzo Berselli, who previously contributed to a wide variety of yachts, particularly from Italian builders, as a team member of AM Yacht Design and Luca Dini Design. For the X100 Triplex yacht series, Studio Agon lends a high bow and long, sporty lines. Those long lines lend more balance to the look. A trideck 98-footer (30-meter) with a significant beam of 26 feet (8 meters) can risk appearing boxy or uneven. The same risk can result from striving to provide owners with interior volumes more like those of 131-footers (40-meters). Between the flowing lines and long, dark swaths of glass, your eyes move more fore to aft than up and down. Speaking of up, though, there is a bonus: a big sundeck for dining and cocktails, with an available hardtop.

Owners and guests won’t feel shut in while inside, of course. The floor-to-ceiling glass on the main and upper decks slides open. This is true, too, in the master suite on the main deck. Regardless of what room you’re in, Laura Brocchini Design lends a soothing feel. Naturally finished oak and metallic gray accents are throughout the megayacht.

The X100 Triplex yacht series further offers three different layouts from which to choose. For example, you can have the galley on the main deck, and a handy pantry on the upper deck. Or, put the galley on the upper deck and devote the lounge to dining, relocating the pantry to the main level. Laura Brocchini Design purposely envisions loose furnishings for the upper deck to offer even more flexibility.

Since you’ll likely live outside most days, of course, the X100 Triplex yacht series has some ample alfresco areas. Lounging aft cascades over two levels by the water, made even larger by fold-down side platforms. A big sunpad sits just off the swim platform, while an outdoor lounge is just forward and a few steps above it. Conveniently, the sunpad can convert to a settee facing the lounge, thanks to raising sections that form backrests.

The X100 Triplex yacht series provides further options, too, like a hot tub at the bow and a transformer platform for the tender. The tender stows beneath the above-mentioned sunpad. Finally, the options extend to propulsion. The standard power is twin 1,550-hp MANs, for a 15½- knot top speed. Twin 1,800-hp MANs promise 18 knots maximum.
