The next time you learn of a refit, consider how many specialists it takes to make the magic happen. With the recently completed, nearly yearlong refit of No Bad Ideas, a Westport 130 from 2005, two dozen vendors participated. They included and all came together at Bradford Marine. The project is the largest that the service and repair yard has taken on since changing ownership in late 2019, too.
Bradford Marine, with more than 160 skilled craftspeople on staff, began work on the megayacht in April 2020. Since the pandemic was peaking, staff and subcontractors adapted typical practices to keep work going. The work list was quite extensive, too. The owners not only wanted larger deck spaces, but also a new hardtop and radar arch, new alfresco relaxation areas, and an entirely new interior.
In terms of that interior, A La Mer designed the dramatic change. A more contemporary ambience with obeche wood replaces the traditional, satin-finished cherrywood (above). Additionally, light and dark contrasts as well as sea-like colors especially on the dining area’s feature wall (top), set a casually elegant mood.
A/V specialists, lighting designers, masons, joiners, and more all played a part in updating No Bad Ideas, too. For instance, upgraded speakers are outside as well as in the captain’s cabin. In the galley, the chef now has a food-prep area (below) in place of the country-kitchen dinette. Exterior lighting is fully LED, plus the megayacht has LED underwater lights. Furthermore, the flying bridge gained not just length but also a hot tub, a bar, and new teak decking.
From the master head redesign to a dive compressor installation, No Bad Ideas reflects how her owners like to live. The yacht also should better cater to charter guests.
“There are a lot of very good yards in South Florida, and Bradford Marine was very happy to be picked for this extensive refit,” says John Kelly, the CEO. “The family’s dream was to take the reliable design of a Westport 130 and update the yacht.”
