On September 19, hundreds of thousands of people across the United States, Europe, Asia, and more will be volunteering for International Coastal Cleanup Day. It’s a global event organized by the Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit that guides government policies and gets citizens engaged in protecting the oceans and ocean life. In the September edition of the MegayachtNews.com newsletter, which hit subscribers’ inboxes this week, we highlight the impact that the Ocean Conservancy and International Coastal Cleanup Day have had—and are continuing to have. Last year, for example, 16 million pounds of garbage was removed from shores dotting 91 countries. Over three decades, nearly 200 million pounds of garbage has been collected, the equivalent of 500 blue whales. We also provide a link to an interactive map on the Ocean Conservancy’s website that shows planned beach cleanups near you.
Along the same lines of coastal conservation, the MegayachtNews.com September newsletter also contains details about how the ardent ocean advocate Fabien Cousteau is being honored by the International SeaKeepers Society—and how you can attend the event. He’ll be the recipient of the annual SeaKeeper Award at the annual Bal de la Mer and Founder’s Dinner in Fort Lauderdale on November 5.
