Just as millions of Americans across the country are doing today, the MegayachtNews.com staff is celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends. And what better way to celebrate than to raise a toast to good company and good health. That’s why we turned to Jonathan Pogash, the president and owner of The Cocktail Guru, for suggestions on festive Thanksgiving drinks.
First, a bit of background on The Cocktail Guru. The U.S. company trains bartenders, restaurateurs, and beverage-brand employees about spirits, wines, and cocktails. Pogash was also recently accredited by the Professional Yachting Association, to teach yacht crew about mixology. And, Pogash has made several appearances on regionally and nationally aired programs on NBC, ABC, and FOX.
The Cocktail Guru emphasizes a variety of lesson, like how to make popular cocktails, how to concoct signature ones, and how to design menus around drink offerings. For your Thanksgiving menu, consider serving an apertif like the Dutch Thyme (left) or the Bobsled:
THE DUTCH THYME
1½ oz. Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka
¾ oz. Ron Abuelo Anejo
3 fresh thyme sprigs, de-stemmed
¾ oz. pomegranate juice
½ oz. simple syrup
Muddle the thyme, then add remaining ingredients and shake well with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a fresh thyme sprig.
THE BOBSLED
1 1/2 oz. Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka
1 oz. cranberry juice
1 tsp. maple syrup
Shake ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled shot glass. Garnish with an orange slice.
For an after-Thanksgiving-dinner dessert drink, Pogash and The Cocktail Guru team suggest the Ultimate Espresso Martini (pictured at top):
2 oz. Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka
1 oz. strong, chilled espresso
½ oz. coffee liqueur
¼ oz. orange liqueur
Splash of simple syrup
Shake all ingredients very well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
